The Follower Series
Lithograph and Collage
The Follower series reinforces the certainty that power is vested in the people and can be exercised by them directly. Australia’s system of representation and delegated authority should not be seen as a reason for careless acceptance of political decisions or events.

In this Auxin Series I explore the symbolic play between the life cycle of plants, their germination, flower, fruit, seed, and decay and the cycle of our own physical development and emotional rebirth.
I worked on this series throughout 2012 and early 2013.
Dedication Plaque is a response to the Brunswick Counihan Gallery exhibition theme of women in the Victorian Legislative Assembly, a tribute to the momentous contribution made by Victorian women for their service to public life. Suffragette colours have been used – white referencing public and private life, purple for dignity and self-respect and green symbolic for hope, growth and new life. The plaque is overlayed with the names and suburbs of women who have been elected to the Legislative Assembly of the Parliament of Victoria since the centenary occasion. Their hard work makes my choices possible.
I was invited by Ringwood Gallery to tease out the tensions between functionality of objects and their gender associations. To take as a starting point the ideas fixed to an object which imbue meaning beyond their intended purpose.
Predictability
The purse is often represented as a badge of womanhood, old fashioned and traditional in status; a metaphor for women’s status.
In this Idée fixe exhibition the purse symbolises the heart, opened with absolute care to expose its tempting centre; closed through the domestic sense of predictability, sameness and reliability; and taking flight with an open heart releasing confidence, wellbeing and wonderment.
